  • Alert: Thefts Ongoing in the Community

    Hi all,

Regrettably there has been a series of thefts recently in the community, and I am posting this to let everyone know in particular those who are not active on the Nmbngee Facebook or Whatsapp groups (please email or call Max or a board member if you wish to be added to those)

This started a couple of months ago and settles down once discoveries are made but then starts again once the kerfuffle dies down.

Feel free to contact a board member for more details as we discuss what to do about this. Complicating factors are that the offenders in most cases have proven to be certain children resident on the community. I don’t want to get into more details than that on this public a forum. What I want to do is just make sure all members are aware that thefts are ongoing and to take measures to secure your homes and valuables.

I will post more later after more in person discussions.

After purchase of land and initial onsite visits in late 1973, in January of 1974, the final paper work was signed and Nmbngee came officially into existence.

  • Fire Safety and Evacuation Planning Meeting

    Date: November 5th 2023
    Time: 10am
    Location: Mainhouse

The board have organised the first of a series of fire safety and evacuation planning meeting for Nmbngee to be held on the 5th of November. This is not a cooperative General Meeting as such and all members and residents are invited to attend and contribute.

With the fire season looking at being a big one this year, the board decide to organise a series of community get-togethers to make sure we as a community are on top of safety planning and to establish an evacuation plan.

    Topics for discussion include:

    • Fire Awaeness
    • Communication tree
    • Radio use and establishment of base stations
    • Fire truck use
    • Evacuation Plan including exit pathways and assembly areas
    • Evacuation Map
    • Other things as they come up

See attached map for current fire trail egress paths.

  • Picnic and Climbing at Big Dog Tree

Yesterday, we took a gaggle of kids and adults (kids at heart) out to the big dog tree where we enjoyed a picnic and climbing fest. The kids learnt about the native plants and about the effects of flooding on the environment.

    21 of us in total.

  • 2023 AGM Group Photo

50 Years ago the first members of Nmbngee met on a block of land to discuss starting their own community. Today old and new members came together to revisit the tradition of the AGM group photo.

Nmbngee AGM some time in the 1980’s.

Another Nmbngee group photo which may or may not be an AGM photo. To be honest we didn’t need an excuse for a groupie (like a selfie but for a group)

This one was one of our more interesting AGM’s. Just joking, it was for a Mainhouse Fancy Dress party!

Kids in the 80’s playing at the Mainhouse. This is the front of the house where the photo was taken today, this shows the concrete steps that used to exist there.

The post box will be checked regularly but if you have anything urgent, email a board member as well to inform them there is mail waiting.

The contact page will be updated to include the postal address.

If sending to the board as an instrument use this address:

  • Emergency Preparedness Workshops – Lillifield

INVITATION TO NMBNGEE MEMBERS FROM LILLIFIELD TO ATTEND THE FOLLOWING FREE WORKSHOPS

My name is Jeanette Dal Santo from the Lillifield Community and we would like to invite members of your community to the following events.

Free Event Number 1  Disaster Management & Co-ordinated Evacuation. Targeting the concerns of communities regarding emergency management. Our objective is to discuss how we can work together within Lillifield and as you are our neighbours to assist each other in an emergency (flood & fire) until Emergency Services arrive.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 2nd November commencing 5pm-7pm. Lillifield Community Centre. To make it as much a social and relaxed event we are having a ‘Pot Luck’ meeting and ask if everyone would bring a plate to share
The meeting will be headed by Tammy and Jazmin Jones who are the facilitators of Community-led Resilient teams across the Northern Rivers. They are quiet amazing women who are trained and dedicated to the safety and security of communities.  They assist communities in meeting their disaster management needs.
The initial discussion will include (but not limited to):-
    ·        What is important to your community?
    ·        Identifying local risks.
    ·        Learning from past experiences.
    ·        Keeping the vulnerable safe.
    ·        Coordinating emergency response. (I see this final point as very relevant to both Lillifield and Nmbngee as we are near neighbours and it would be so important for both communities to have a coordinated response to evacuation – e.g., use of exit through Lillifield and shelter in our Community Centre which we are working to equip as a ‘safe haven’ etc).
We are inviting the Principal from Barkesvale as the school too could be a safe haven for members of both communities should they not evacuate early enough from their homes. An invite has been extended to the Rock Valley Hamlet Community who have said their representatives will be attending to develop their disaster strategies.
Free Event Number 2  What to do Until the Ambulance ArrivesSunday  30th October 9.30am-12.30am  Lillifield Community Centre
This is a more in-depth workshop facilitated by a Paramedic. Lillifield has formed a team to attend any medical emergency on Lillifield until services can arrive.
Most of the team did attend our August workshop but wanted more training specifically targeting longer time frame management.  Whilst our August workshop was great, as a former trainer for St. John Ambulance, I felt there were a number of first aid scenarios that needed a little more attention especially for rural and remote communities.
We are again extending an invite to Nmbgnee members to attend this workshop. It would be an ideal opportunity for those who could not attend our first workshop and for those who like ourselves wish to know more first aid protocols.
If your community members are interested in these workshops, please contact me.
Mobile phone 0447 012887 (please send me a text)
  • BY LAW Updates

At the last SGM it was decided to update the Poisons section of the by-laws. Previously it was possible under the by-laws to seek permission to use round up, however members decided we no longer felt it was appropriate to use round up or glyphosate related products. Further to that, members decided that no herbicides should be used on Nmbngee.

Pesticides were considered okay in necessary cases (such as white ants).

By Laws 16a and 16b, “No chemicals (i.e. pesticides, herbicides, etc.) are to be used without permission from a Directors’ meeting” and “That the use of Roundup (using cut and paint method) be approved for the removal of groundsel, camphor laurel and privet” respectively, were removed and replaced with a sole rule “No synthetic (chemical) herbicides are to be used on Nmbngee”.

You can view and download the new By-Laws document here: https://nmbngee.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/BY-LAWS.pdf

You can view and download the minutes confirming this change here: https://nmbngee.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/20220703-SGM-Minutes.pdf

  • NEW MAPS

    Hi all fellow Nmbngeeians!

I have update the maps page with 2022 version maps. There has been a steady adding of features to the main Map of Nmbngee, including now fire trails, the location of the cemetery, and other features.

Another key addition is a high resolution aerial map of Nmbngee. I have included this as a high resolution PNG file, and as a slightly lower resolution version designed to fit 1:1 on an A3 page, which can be printed at any photocopy shop on to A3 Landscape.

Please check out the page https://nmbngee.org/members-area/office/development-plan-and-maps/ to view or download the maps, or use the links below:

  • How to do Census

Census time has come around again! Of course the Aus government is completely unable to deal with the fact there are 30 separate households on our community and sent ONE census form to the whole community!

Good news is that if you plan to give the government your info (I support doing so, but also this government’s record on cyber security is up shit creek so make of that what you will) you can do the census online or order your own paper form. So no one should attempt to fill out the ONE census form we received on behalf of all members. Far better we each do our own.

If you want to do the form online, go here and click “Get a Census number” and follow the prompts:
    https://www.census.abs.gov.au/census-login

If you want you can order a paper form or pick one up from a “local Census Hub”. See details here: https://www.census.abs.gov.au/doing/paper-form#order-form

  • 2020 AGM Postponement

Hoping everyone and your loved one’s are well and staying safe from Covid-19!

AGM Postponement: This year the Office of Fair Trading has informed cooperatives that postponement of AGM’s this year due to Covid-19 is allowed, and that it is not necessary to seek official approval. So the board has elected to postpone this year’s AGM until next year. The board agreed to this measure due to the concerns that broad based participation in an AGM would not be possible even given social distancing measures.

Director positions will carry over until the AGM 2021, however anyone with concerns about the current positions or who would like to stand for or vote on Director positions before the AGM next year should contact the Board with your concerns.

You have been emailed or posted (depending on your previous preference for receiving correspondence) your ASF and Levy status current as of the 11th June 2020. Please check your email and junk mail folder if you haven’t received those emails yet. No member is facing 2 year inactive status at this time.

I have prepared a mid year report and have posted both the mid year report and the End of Year 2019 report in the meeting section of this website.

  • Notification of Potential New Shareholders

Nmbngee checking out potential new members

Forest has tenants in his place currently who wish to purchase his house and a share. They have started their six month stint and will be close to 6 months by the time of the AGM, so will possibly be on the agenda for share transfers at next yeas AGM.

Their names are Matt and Lisa. They will hopefully be in attendance at the community dinner on the 8th, and this would be a great opportunity to meet them and get to know them (and them us).
